Simulation, sizing, and finite element validation of aircraft seats.

Enjeu de Safran Seats : Obtenir la certification de conformité des sièges délivrée par la FAA (Federal Aviation Administration)

Safran Seats is one of the aerospace industry leaders and develops different categories of seats, from crew seats (pilot, co-pilot, flight attendant), etc.) to the different versions of passenger seats (luxury, business, economic). Certification of passenger aircraft seats and crew requires static and dynamic test campaigns.

As part of the development of new seats, Inoprod has created a finite element model of a flight attendant seat for Safran.

The challenge was to reproduce and improve the behavior of the seat to obtain compliance certification issued by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).

Simulation objectives

  • Simulate the mechanical behavior of the seat and correlate the 1st test realized.
  • Propose and simulate improvements for the right behavior of the seat and its connections with the partition.

Proposed technical solutions

  • Doubling of the connections with the partition
  • Improved cohesion of the sliding system on the seat
  • Materials recommendations.
"Inoprod was able to produce a seat model in quasi-autonomy which perfectly reproduced the behavior observed in the test. The deadline and quality expectations were met, which helped us to launch the second simulation with the modified parts. This showed a sufficient level of confidence to complete the certification test which was successful"
